About Fort Myers:
The area of Fort Myers in Lee County, home to South West Florida International Airport, Spring training for the Boston Red Sox and Minnesota Twins baseball teams, Florida Everblades hockey team and the Barbara B. Mann Center for the Performing Arts, encompasses Sanibel and Captiva Islands and Fort Myers Beach.
The population of Fort Myers is a little over 65,000 and the population of Fort Myers Beach is a little over 7,000. Fort Myers has had many historic figures grace its residents list such as Thomas Edison and Henry Ford. In the late 1800’s, imported Royal Palms were planted along Riverside Drive, later renamed McGregor Boulevard. These magnificent Royal Palms, some now towering at 75 feet, give the City of Palms its nickname today.
Residents of Fort Myers enjoy a long list of activities including yachting, sailing, golfing, sightseeing at wildlife preserves, shopping, and of course enjoying the countless white sand beaches. In addition, the city of Naples, Florida and all of its attractions is just a sort car ride south.
